How Screen Decoder Lens handles information
Screen content
The app uses Android MediaProjection only after you approve Android’s screen-capture prompt. When you manually tap the translation viewfinder, the region inside the finder is processed in memory for optical character recognition (OCR) and translation. Displayed results stay frozen until you release them. Captured images are not written to storage or uploaded by Screen Decoder Lens. Temporary image resources are released when no longer needed, including when the finder is cleared or closed. Android may require fresh consent after a capture session ends.
Camera use
Camera mode is optional. After you choose it and grant camera permission, the app shows a live camera preview inside the finder. Tapping the finder freezes an image for on-device OCR and translation; releasing the result resumes the preview. Camera access stops when you leave camera mode, minimize the finder, or close it. Screen Decoder Lens does not record video, access the microphone, save photos, or upload camera images.
Camera screenshots, recording, and screen sharing
The Camera privacy setting “Allow screenshots and recording” is off by default. While off, the app marks the camera finder as protected from screenshots, recording, and screen sharing using Android’s secure-window protection. Screen mode is unchanged by this setting.
You can enable this setting after confirming a warning. Camera images and translated text may then appear in screenshots, recordings, or shared screens made by Android or other apps, and may be seen by anyone receiving those captures. Their storage, uploading, and sharing depend on the tools you use, not Screen Decoder Lens. This setting does not itself record, save, or upload anything. You can turn it off at any time. Android or your device may still restrict capture even when it is enabled.
Temporary translation cache
To reduce repeated work and keep repeated translations consistent, the app keeps a size-limited cache of recognized source text and translated results in memory. Some entries can remain after you release a translation. Entries are removed as the cache fills or when the translation engine is closed. This cache is not written to storage or uploaded, and is lost when the app process ends.
Information stored on the device
The app stores settings such as interface language, translation direction, finder color, translation-model status, and your camera screenshot/recording choice. Downloaded translation models are stored on the device for offline use. You can remove app data by clearing the app’s storage or uninstalling it.
Network and third-party services
Internet access is used to download Google ML Kit language-translation models to the device. OCR and translation use Google ML Kit’s on-device libraries. Screen captures are not intentionally transmitted to Google or any other third party by this app. Google ML Kit is governed by Google’s own terms and privacy practices.
Permissions
Display over other apps: shows the floating viewfinder.
Screen capture: supports translations initiated by the user.
Camera: provides the optional live camera finder and tap-to-translate camera images. Microphone access is not required.
Foreground service and notifications: keep the active finder visible and attributable to the app.
Internet: downloads language-translation models.
Sharing, retention, and children
The developer does not sell or share personal information. The app does not create accounts or maintain a saved history of screen captures, camera images, or translations. Temporary in-memory processing and caching are described above. It is a general-audience utility and is not directed to children under 13.

Pantalla y cámara

Capturas, grabaciones y pantalla compartida
La opción para permitir capturas y grabaciones de la cámara está desactivada de forma predeterminada: el visor de cámara usa la protección de ventana segura de Android. Si la activas y confirmas la advertencia, otras herramientas de captura, grabación o pantalla compartida pueden mostrar las imágenes de la cámara y el texto traducido a sus destinatarios. Su almacenamiento y envío dependen de esas herramientas. Esta opción no graba, guarda ni sube contenido por sí misma. Puedes desactivarla en cualquier momento; Android puede seguir restringiendo las capturas. No modifica el modo de pantalla.
Caché temporal y datos locales
Una caché de tamaño limitado conserva temporalmente en memoria texto reconocido y traducciones para reutilizar resultados. Algunas entradas permanecen después de liberar una traducción; se eliminan al llenarse la caché o cerrarse el motor de traducción. No se escriben en archivos ni se suben y desaparecen al terminar el proceso de la aplicación.
Se guardan ajustes como idioma, dirección de traducción, color, estado del modelo y preferencia de capturas de cámara, así como los modelos descargados para uso sin conexión. Puedes borrar los datos desde los ajustes de Android o desinstalar la aplicación. Internet permite descargar modelos de Google ML Kit; el reconocimiento y la traducción se ejecutan en el dispositivo. Google ML Kit tiene sus propias condiciones y prácticas de privacidad.
Los permisos de superposición, servicio en primer plano y notificaciones permiten mostrar e identificar el visor. El desarrollador no vende ni comparte información personal.
